June 12th, 2020

The Speaker, Kwara state House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Engr. Salihu Yakubu Danladi has said the activities of 9th Kwara Assembly under his watch will continue to be dictated by Kwarans interest.

According to a statement issued by his Special Assistant, Media, Ibrahim Sheriff, in commemoration of Nigeria's Democracy Day, Danladi said "democracy is all about the people, as representatives, we are only here to project and defend their interests, and that we have been doing and will continue to do".

"June 12, 1993 election was beyond just an election but a revolution of the people, which was then halted by the military but the resilience of the heroes of our democracy regained it for us in 1999.

"The greatest honour we can do to our heroes of democracy is preserving the right of the people and enhancing people's inclusion in governance and politics. We must always ensure popular voice of the people prevail against any sectional interest", Danladi said.

He added, "On our parts as legislators, we shall continue to engage Kwarans, especially the grassroots and ensure all our actions are guided by the yearnings and aspirations of the people, such that their interest is reflected in day to day activities of the government they install".

Danladi, who emphasised the importance of the symbolism of the celebration noted that as people's parliament, the 9th Assembly over the last one year has been fighting for people's course daringly and would continue doing so in the spirit of June 12, until Kwaran commonwealth translates optimally to divident of democracy for all and sundry.

"The Kwara Otoge movement of 2019 is likeable to June 12, as both events reshaped and redirected Kwara and Nigeria's democratic trajectory.

The legislator urges all Kwarans to always live the dream and work towards ensuring the teachings, sacrifices, self denials and virtues of the day translates to better life for all.
